10 people was arrested Monday, in USA and 1 was arrested on Cypress Tuesday, suspected to be part of a Russian spy ring, that has been active since the middle of the 90s. FBI has been monitoring them for a decade and believe they are part of SVR (The "new KGB"). Some of the agents was married and had children together. 9 of the arrested persons is also suspected to have been doing money laundry which can give them up till 20 years behind bars while the punishment for being foreign agent is 5 years.
Russia claims they know nothing about it.
US government says that the arrests wont affect the US-Russian relationship that is on it's highest peak for a long time.
Some experts says that Russia is still active in spying and maybe more now then ever, the reason is they have better technology and more money then ever. Also the agents don't spy for there own political reasons, they do it for money now.
But one thing is for sure, this isn't the beginning of a new Cold War.

During last week, the commander of the ISAF in Afghanistan, Gen. McChrystal, was forced to step down from that position. The reason was his comments in the magazine The Rollingstone, where he spoke badly about President Obama and members of his staff.
We have written an article about this man, former CO of The 75th Ranger Regiment and a real down to earth kind of guy.
Read it here. |
