Operation DESERT LOCUST has been launched!

USASOC PAO: Today the 75th Ranger Regiment began a series of delicate missions somewhere in eastern Afghanistan at the direction of USASOC and the CJTF. The details are classified, but the missions are aimed at improving relationships with local tribal leadership and stemming the flow of money and opium that funds the Taliban. The Rangers will be operating in some cases in conjunction with Soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division.

Camp Gentry was locked down, and no vehicle traffic could be seen entering or leaving the main gate, though the helicopter traffic around the base has been very high. More details as we receive them.

The 75th turns 7 years old on Wednesday!
Image

Wednesday, February 3rd, is the 7th Anniversary of the founding of the 75th Ranger Regiment. We were founded by Spencer Fontaine and David Kinnear when America's Army was barely one year old. Neither of our two founders knew the scope of what was to come, but without their efforts, and those who came along later, we wouldn't be here.

*Salutes* to MAJ Kinnear (RET) and CPT Fontaine (RET). Here's to another 7 years!

Charlie Company's patch design reflects Ranger history
Image

Authorized by Company HQ, the new patch design is inspired by Rangers of present and past. Based on the design of the current Ranger beret flash, the patch bears the six colors assigned to the six Merrill's Marauders company teams: red, white, blue, green, khaki, orange.

The current Charlie Company structure allows for six squads, and in honor of the Marauder history, each squad has been designated one of these six colors. So the Company patch is a visual representation of the whole community of the 75th. We are a family of Rangers who come under one banner, and we will forge a new proud history as Marauders of Charlie Company.

Honoring a Special Forces/Ranger Hero
Image

By LTC Roman (RET),
On December 23rd, 2009, Colonel Robert L. Howard, believed to be the most highly decorated American Soldier since World War 2, passed away as a result of his battle with pancreatic cancer. It is fitting to take a few moments and honor his achievements borne out of an incredible dedication to the Army Core Values and to his country.

Colonel Howard enlisted in the Army in 1956 at the age of seventeen. As an enlisted man, he rose into the ranks of the NCO corps, and served five separate tours in Vietnam, first in a covert role with the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG), and later during the official wartime hostilities. In a single thirteen month period, he was nominated for the Medal of Honor for acting with extreme valor.

The first two awards were downgraded to the Distinguished Service Cross, due to the covert nature of the operations during which Colonel Howard's actions took place. As a Sergeant First Class, still part of the MACV-SOG on December 30, 1968, while second in command of a platoon sized element, he rose to the occasion of one of the most valorous actions ever described in American military history. As follows are excerpts from his Medal of Honor citation:

"... distinguished him...

Annoucing a major reorganization of the 75th
Today, 09 January 2010, the 75th underwent the most fundamental reorganization since its founding in 2003. In an effort to make the unit more compact and responsive, Regimental Command has inactivated Alpha, Bravo and HQ Companies, as well as 1st Battalion HQ, and consolidated all Rangers into the newly created Charlie Company. Taking a page from proud Ranger history, Charlie is taking the nickname "Marauders", and their Company motto is "Go for broke".

Captain R. Patterson volunteered to become Charlie Company's first Commander, giving up his three year tenure as Regimental Commanding Officer and the rank of Colonel. First Sergeant L. Dietzel has also resigned his position as 1st Battalion Sergeant Major to become Charlie's first Top.

First Lieutenants Hesler and Westerside are taking the lead at 1st and 2nd Platoons, respectively, and their former First Sergeants have come along to be Platoon Sergeants of the newly minted units. SFC Castro will be taking the Platoon Sergeant position in the new Combat Support Platoon and will be the Marauder's primary Duty NCO.

These changes are to effect a closer line of communication with the Squads, the all important field units of the 75th, and should tighten the chain of command and make the 75th Rangers a leaner, meaner fighting unit. Which is what we are.

Go for broke!
Rangers lead the Way!
