Towards the end of June, the ISAF was faced with a slight power-vacuum facing the retirement of General Stanley McChrystal, whom was relieved of his command as supreme commander in Afghanistan. Luckily, the vacuum was swiftly filled by the highly decorated and experienced, David Petraeus. Ironically, this caused another power-vacuum as Gen. Petraeus' spot in CENTCOM is now vacant. Luckily, the US Military is all but prepared for changes and the public eye is now on four-star Marine Corps General, James Mattis, better known as his nickname, Mad Dog Mattis. Like the man he is being chosen to replace, General Mattis has an impressive service record, numerous decorations, and tactical ingenuity. He's been in every war save WWII that the United States has fought in the Middle East, and he holds the distinction of being the first Marine to command a Naval Task Force in combat. He was even a runner up for Commandant of the Marine Corps, although the Secretary of Defense chose General Amos instead.

But Mattis may get the opportunity to do some experimentation thanks to his new job at CENTCOM. While at Joint Forces Command, Mattis was an enormous proponent to a decentralization and dis...

There is a town south of Nad 'Ali, Afghanistan, that to some is unplottable. It scarcely appears on any maps, and when it does, is unnamed and easily overlooked. Although local countrymen are aware of it's existence, this small village seems anchors aweigh from civilization. It was perhaps both the remote location and cartographic camouflage that made it both a staging area and firing point for local insurgents. Unfortunately for them, both their cruel and inhumane treatment of the local villagers, and constant attacks on local ISAF convoys had called down the thunder, and they were about to reap the whirlwind.
Moving with support from the local Afghanistan Security Force, British troops marched towards the village. Any fortified positions the Taliban held was immediately decimated by close air support whilst infantry charged, keeping with the speed and tempo of the offense, searching house to house. Civilian casualties were non existent, the thinking behind the coalition soldiers is best described by Afghan National Civil Order Police officer, Colonel Hakkim.

"Bullets can't tell the difference between insurgents and children, but you can, and you pull the trigger."

Anyone, even without milita...

The AK-47 is arguably, the world's most famous weapon of all time. The weapon and its variants can be found on almost every continent, and have been in nearly every war imaginable post-WWII. It is the main weapon of many countries around the world, as well as the weapon of choice for terrorists, gangs, and drug cartels.

The AK-47, who's proper name is the Kalashnikov automatic rifle; model 1947, was the brainchild of Soviet tank driver-mechanic, Mikhail Kalashnikov, who when wounded in battle during WWII began designing various weapons while still in the hospital. Although at first, none of his weapons were accepted into mainline service, his talents were noticed and he was transferred to the Central Scientific-developmental Firing Range. He entered a Soviet weapon trials competition for a "true" assault rifle, although he was beat several times by other weapons, he constantly improved on his design that would eventually become the AK-47. He also developed other weapons for the Soviet Union, including the RPK. Kalashnikov reportedly did not profit from his development of the AK Series, but only received a pension for his work.

The AK-47 and it's variants are chambered for the 7.62x39mm round, compared to the 5.56x45mm NATO round of the M-16 series. The gun was ...
